Judging Criteria and Winner Selection
Function (Baseline Requirements)
-
Handles the four basic functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
-
Works across a reasonable range of inputs and outputs (within defined limits).
Creativity (Judge-Weighted)
-
Novelty: Unique, surprising, or intentionally absurd approaches are rewarded.
-
Impact/Entertainment: Does it amuse, impress, or make a strong impression (good or bad)?
-
Practical Ingenuity: Calculators that bring a fresh, useful, or elegant twist on practicality are also valued — innovation doesn’t have to be absurd to score well.
-
Wildcard: Judges have full discretion to award points for anything that stands out — whether it’s brilliantly useful, hilariously bad, or wildly unconventional.
Winners will be selected by vote of the judges
